Professor Avishai Margalit is the Chair of the George F. Kennan Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, and a Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He received the Israel Prize in 2010, the EMET prize in 2007 and the Spinoza prize in 2001 and is a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences. He has published articles on various social and political issues in The New York Review of Books. Margalit was one of the founders and drafters of the platform for the "Moked" Party in 1973. In 1975 he was one of the founders of the Israeli Council for Israeli-Palestinian Peace and in 1978, he was among the first leaders of Peace Now. He served on the board of B'Tselem - The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories for many years.
